This season’s most popular prop hire items for parties are giant pineapples, palm tree lamps and
industrial lights. Hollywood style lights and backdrops featuring classic cars are in demand too. For
photo shoots, vintage props are still in demand – particularly tweeds, oak and distressed metal.
Props for weddings and parties come in all shapes and sizes, but popcorn carts and gin bars are still
seen at fashion parties in Berlin and Cannes, despite being around for a few years.
Getting hold of an Instagram friendly prop can be difficult. They tend to be large and require
transportation to and from your event. Local collectors of kitsch memorabilia are a good place to
start. Junk stores (thrift stores) throw up some good finds, as do flea markets. Auctions are the holy
grail of prop collecting. But auctions require being in the right place at the right time. Of course,
auctions are online too now if you can organise inexpensive transportation.
Our discoveries at auction include giant champagne glasses, distressed wooden wheelbarrows,
beautiful vintage bikes with baskets, handcrafted oak ladders and a 6ft gold banana half-peeled with
monkey on top. Bizarre stuff! Fun for pool parties and photo booths.
